What's crazy about it? My mother and I used to play a lot.

I used to play and I like it. It's fun when you learn what each piece can do. I like strategy games like that.

In my Playstation Harry Potter game, whenever I had to play a chess match, I had hubby do it.

I used to play chess a lot. I haven't played it in years, though. (If I'm going to play a strategy game, I much prefer bridge.) If I play chess
right, it gives me headaches. It's far too intense for my tastes.

That's what happened to me, too, brahman...too intense and I'd get a headache from it. Too stressful!

I don't have the patience. Or the attention span for that matter.

I used to love the game and won the tournament we had in high school. Then, everyone started wanting to play chess all the time to see if they could win.
It got to be a hassle. |

Grandspawn has the chess set from the Harry Potter movies and will play anyone willing to go against him. Currently that would be the Spawns. I don't play
him any more. Kind of embarassing to get one's arse handed to one by a (then) six year old ... who then proceeds to gloat like a Deatheater over it.
He's seven now and slowly getting better at it.

I remember once reading what people with great minds had said about chess. Most were very complimentary but my favorite was Einstein, who called it "a
demon".
The most interesting thing to me is that chess was invented by Buddhist monks in ancient India. The purpose was to give the Rajas a game to play against each other that would simulate war and thus prevent them from having wars by pitting their real armies against each other. Thus the game was actually peaceful in purpose. Another thing I found interesting is that originally, the piece we call the Queen, which is the most powerful piece on the board, was the Prime Minister. |

I used to play fairly often, had a Dad and brother who played via the mail while brother was in Navy overseas. I remember the chess board set up and heaven
help me if I disturbed the pieces.
But I'm like LB now, it's too intense, too slow, and it makes my head hurt trying to play ahead. Could only do a couple plays at a time in my brain, and you really need to be able to make up at least 3 different scenerio's, depending on what play your opponent does after you, and have them all laid out in your head. Forgedaboudit. And I've done that too LB! Monopoly was far too long a game to keep me interested. |
